Case Study 1

Installed the largest centralized IP Phone deployment in the Midwest - 1100 phones in 24 buildings—including Cisco Unified Messaging (voicemail integrated with Microsoft Exchange). This installation has grown from an aggregated T3 solution utilizing a Cisco VXR-7206 to a partial fiber solution incorporating a Cisco 6509. A fully clustered front-end/back-end Microsoft Exchange 2000 email system is the core infrastructure for this installation. Clustered DHCP servers serve the entire school district. Spectra logic tape library, Brocade silkworm switches and a Xiotech SANs provide core data storage and backup facilities. Other aspects include: PIX firewall, Cisco wireless access points and bridges, Cisco management servers, ATM connection to the ICN, and approximately 25 rack-mount Compaq/HP servers. The district receives an average of 2700 calls per school day over this system.

Case Study 2

Installation of an IP Phone system and new core network - 350 phones in 10 buildings. This installation uses Unity Voice Mail as an auto attendant and handles approximately 2000 calls on the average day. The system also integrates a CAMA trunk solution for E-911 coverage (location information down to the desktop) Other aspects include: Coordination of significant fiber re-termination, and switch aggregation at layer 2 and 3, a dual T1 front-end router (now recently changed to an ethernet-based Internet connection), Cisco VPN concentrator and PIX firewall.

Case Study 3

We’ve just finished the first phase of this IP Telephony installation. Phase 1 includes dual Call Manager servers, Unity voicemail and approximately 250 phones. This covers the first 3 buildings as a part of a 3-year phased project. This installation uses a McLeod T1 PRI line for voice and a CAMA trunk solution for E-911 services (location information down to the desktop). The district was able to drop over 70 phone lines and improve staff efficiencies as a result of this project. They have also reduced their yearly recurring maintenance costs by over 60%.

The school district was so pleased with our services that Computer Solutions has been selected to perform the final 2 phases of the phone system installation when the budget becomes available.

Case Study 4

Installation of Cisco Cisco Call Manager and Unity Server started their first-phase IP telephony rollout. This initial phase encompassed IP phones in their new classroom edition as well as setting up analog phones in every dorm room (as cat 3 cabling was only available in those buildings). We were also responsible for configuring QoS settings on their Cisco switched infrastructure. We also integrated their Avaya Definity PBX into the new system so SCC could have 4-digit dialing across both platforms. SCC anticipates a final-phase IP Telephony rollout in the next year.

Among the challenges was to get a shared phone to ring in a dorm room, but if not answered, flow call into specific student’s voicemail account. Computer Solutions met the challenge and the budget. We continue to be have a strong support alliance with SCC and look toward the implementation of the final phases of their system.

Case Study 5

This project involved setting up a network with IP Telephony, voice mail and new switching in some areas. We integrated voice across the 3 buildings over fiber cable on an existing Lucent/Avaya switching infrastructure.

Among the challenges we met was performing network diagnostics to ensure the network was very stable and helping staff re-configure and properly document the network so it could be better supported in the future.
